Dont really want to spend the money for a cannaster for such a small tank, what do you guys suggest?

I've had great success with biowheels, a Marineland Biowheel 150 (good for 30g) is $20.

I have a HOB that's rated for 30+ gallons, and it works great on my 20. I think it's by Top Fin. It ran about $25-30 here in the US.

Thanx for the tips guys, Ill take a look at them on ebay, never used a bio wheel before, be interesting to check em out:)

I would suggest an Aquaclear HOB filter. They offer the media customization of a canister filter in the price range of a HOB filter. I've used them on a couple small tanks and I love the fact that I can simply wash the media each week rather than replace it.

The way I stack my media:

Top
-----------------
Bio-media
-----------------
Filter floss
-----------------
Coarse Sponge
-----------------
Bottom
