My male betta Flash has been having some issues lately that I can't understand. It seems that for the past 3 weeks now he's been battling with a bloating issue. I came home from work a week or so ago and noticed Flash laying on his side at the top of the water. I stuck my finger in the water and he swam away kind of wobbley. A few minutes later he was back on his side and his stomach looked extremely bloated. I guess this went on for about 3 days and then almost overnight his stomach went down and he was back to swimming normal and blowing bubble nest. (I didn't feed him for the 3-4 days that he was bloated and laying on his side). I fed him and all was well for a few days then the same thing happened again. I had his bowl near a window that receives full sun in the afternoon so I thought that maybe he was getting too hot so I moved him. Again the swelling went down for a few days and now he's bloated again and laying on his side.

I can't understand what the problem is. He doesn't have any scales protruding or any other physical ailments. As soon as the swelling goes down he's back to his normal self. I'm doing regular water changes. Could the food be causing it? Maybe he's having a reaction to this particular type of food????

Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Well... Do your own little experiment.... Feed him something else, and if it does not happen again, you'd know it was the foods....

Are you giving him peas? they really need greens, just cook a couple of frozen garden peas, squash them and take the shell off. and feed the middle bit. I dont over feed my bettas, they just get pellets, fresh live food, frozen bloodworms and tiny micro pellets. :good:
