What is this stuff. It's green and it looks like the leaves of a fern. It could be eggs, algae, or anything really. Any ideas?

1 17 watt T8 bulb
Stock is in sig but it's 2 platys 3 mollys 2 cherry barbs 7 fry and 2 otos
No I don't add ferts but I was going to start soon.
I have 5 clumps of large amazon swords 2 small clumps of argentine swords and 1 anubias attached to driftwood.

It doesn't really look like algae but I guess it could be....

Its difficult for me to see, but somewhat looks like java moss or some other kind to me.

Oh I'll just leave it because if it is java moss I'd like some so growth of it would be great :)

Not sure how efficient your otos are but various Plecostomus species really appreciate some organic growth of drift woods. Obviously, I'm sure you'd know you'd have to be careful about what sub species you got exactly as some of them can get pretty big.

It could be some sort of algae; I've got a lovely patch of ferny looking algae on piece of bogwood where it catches the sun in one of my tanks.

There's 3 'pieces' I guess that each looked like a central root, but now there has been a tad of spreading out from the "root" if that makes a difference :)

Definitely a type of algae in that case. Moss would not grow out in 'tendrils'. Moss would grow up and out mostly evenly. Algae is pretty interesting stuff. Did you know some of the Tokyo rail system is based upon slime-mold growth (which is scientifically an algae-microbial growth) because of the networking behavior of algae and bacteria.

Take a read of this, it's pretty interesting stuff as far as algae and bacterial growth goes :p
