What is this white, fuzzy stuff growing on my driftwood? I think it's called spider wood. It's a 5 gallon tank with one betta. It has high put light and I occasionally use liquid CO2 and plant supplement. The lighting is erratic.

Just prior to this white stuff, a rusty colored algae showed up on everything.

Thank you,
Darrien

Is this a new tank? The rusty stuff was probably diatoms and the white fuzzy stuff is the live organics coming out of the wood. It's very ugly and slimy but it will go away.
I had this also when I added my spider wood. I'd boiled the heck out of it and let it sit in a bucket for a few days to get rid of all these things as well as tannins but apparently wood needs to cycle just like water.
It will run it's corse. My little fish loved nibbling at it.
It's harmless.

Diatoms and good old Mold! it'll just naturally go away :)
