What fish is this? It's colours are exactly the same as a Frontosa, that's what I though it was when it was small. But its shape is completely different. Longer than a Frontosa with a sharper nose. When it's in defence "mode" it inflates its gills in a weird way. Couldn't get a photo of it.

Sorry for the quality of the pics

Thanks for reading.

Ouch!!... when I first saw the pic... "Frontosa Burundi" immediately came to mind.... (dunno why).... Could be one of those generally listed by all SA pet shops as Mixed Malawians..... - 50% Confident,..... But I'd say "phone a friend" or "ask the audience"!

And the audience say ...

Neolamprologus tretocephalus  :good:

btw, it's a Tanganyikan cichlid that gets to around 6" and is extremely aggressive towards conspecific species

They are so close Davo.... I'd still say..... "Let's flip a coin"

Thanks for the replies! It definitely is a Neolamprologus tretocephalus then. However, after reading the profile of this species I have a few questions. Why isn't my fish so aggressive? He's the second or third larger fish in my acquarium. It doen't bother any other fish. Other fish don't bother it as well :look::)

The profiles I have read suggest feeding live food! It never had any live food. Ok, so how worrying is this? I have a large mbuna in the tank and the other fish are mostly aulonocara.

BTW it's one of the most beautiful fish I ever had and I don't want to give it away

common name is a 5 bar. nice fish. how long have you had it?

Between 8-12 months I believe.

P.S. I just remembered, that it was aggressive against a Frontosa fish I had. And the frontosa was significantly bigger back then
