Everytime i walk past Chinese algae eater, pleco L001 and common, blackghost, loaches theres a very loud clicking noise like a computer mouse clicking and chewing sound at the same time . Can anybody solve this? Pleco sound?

My pleco will croak/click from time. It is very funny.

It could also be a catch in your filter. When was the last time you cleaned it?

OMG and I thought I was imagining things. In my study is my 3rd aquarium and it contains 3 different species of loaches, including the Dojo, the Kubotai and the Reticulated Hillstream -I swear there is a higher pitched clicking sound coming from that tank a lot. I take so many drugs (really prescribed medications) that some can have auditory and hallucinatory effects occasionally so I just thought it was my imagination. I love these loaches more than any fish I've ever had - especially the Dojo's. Their tank was kind of rank from my (usual) overfeeding so I siphoned a couple of buckets worth of water out of there and replaced it. Smell is gone. You can always tell when the loaches are happy because they start "riding" the air bubbler and go up and then dive off it at the top - over and over (they politely take turns) now they are winding down and getting ready for a nap and the clicking noises are starting. Any of you watch the movie Signs w/Mel Gibson in it? To me it sounds a bit like the aliens talking but not quite so sinister. EVERYBODY should own loaches.

I just found the following link when looking for something else. It's about farmed fish losing their hearing. Not quite loach related but loaches click to communicate so good hearing is essential. It's an interesting read.

That's interesting colin

There are kubotai in my tank too, might be them.

I'm just so impressed that they seem to be communicating with each other. The other thing that impressed me is that as much as they love riding up in the bubbler they TAKE TURNS there will be a line of them waiting to go and they just wait their turn. These are scare brilliant fish and absolutely hysterical. They sleep in the oddest positions and in the oddest places. Only one sleeps in the floating plants and he's always on his back kind of folded over - and looks quite dead - but give him a poke and he comes to life (I just leave him alone now LOL) - if it suits your tank please get a dojo - especially if you have children. My friend children now all want aquariums after watching the Dojo's do their stuff. Love these fish. If anybody knows of any non-loach fish as fun as these let me know and I may give them a try. Some of the loaches are rated "semi-aggressive" or grow too big for my tank so the Kubuti and Dojo's (and Hillstream - not quite as interesting) are about my only choices. I won't have a semi-aggressive fish in my community tank. Done it before and it was a disaster - everybody was unhappy.

I think its normal for loach to ‘play dead’ my loaches always does that, first time i saw them i thought they were dead.
