what is the best place to put my tank in?

i have a 40g tank i and it is half infrount of a window and half behind a wall is this a good place to put it or is it a bad place ?

your fish tank is a decoration to your house.. put it where it can be enjoyed.. adding plants will give your fish privacy.. put a fishtank were you and others will be arround it alot.. like a livngroom.. that way your fish get used to you and come out when your arround, if you put a fishtank in front of a window.. or anywhere near direct sunlight.. it gets terrible alge.. and frequent alge blooms.. i would recomend a wall away from the window in your living room or family room

If you don't want to move it, lots of plants and selective shading - fully or partially covering the back when too much sunlight does seem likely to cause problems - may prevent algae issues.
Nothing's better than daylight for plants - but results will vary according to circumstance, and years of trouble-free daylight may suddenly alter, or vice versa.
I have a Walstad directly in front of a window, and I simply plan to pull the curtain over that window, if I get direct sunlight which I think is too strong or it seems that the tank's possibly in danger of becoming too warm.
But if you don't have any live plants, you may want to consider earning extra money with the algae farm likely to result.

Looking for the best place for the tank actually depends on the interior of your house. You also need to consider the smells that will come out of the tank when you place it in the living room.
