I got salifert testing kits for phosphate and KH today :d:D

Anyhoo, my phosphates are just under 0.5ppm, what is this sort of level like in a freshwater tank...good...bad?

2ppm is good for PO4 in a planted tank.
If you are not experiencing phosphate deficiencies in your plants though, then no need to increase it.
That's fine for a KH value. I know peeps that have a KH value of "0". Lots of people will tell you that low KH values are dangerous because pH swings are more prominent. Personally from talking to people with "0" KH, they do not have problems even when injecting CO2 that creates carbonic acid.
