Okay so I bought a new fish yesterday and since last night and me looking at the tank tonight we have some little friends, they are little white worm things that crawl over the sides of the tank, please tell me what they are and if they will harm my fish? They move pretty fast as well. I am trying to get a photo of them but they look like maggots slightly smaller?

Could well be planaria, which normally thrive if you are over feeding and not cleaning the substrate enough.

If so, then they are not harmful (exept maybe to fry). Cut back on the feeding, increase substrate cleaning and the fish may even eat them.

Ahh right okay I have just read they are harmless. I don't have fry and I don't breed my fish. I have only just cleaned the tank on Saturday and I clean weekly with a gravel filter. I am now in the process of changing from gravel to sand as I realise that its nearly impossible to keep gravel very clean without uprooting your plants each and every single week. I will do another gravel clean today.

I don't think I am over feeding but should I not be keeping some manner of vegetable in all the time for my plecs any more?

Thanks

Do you feed the fish with the filter and or pump running?
