so many people have different views on how much water to change and the frequency.

at least every two weeks, i tend to do a 100% water change. I find that as i am cleaning the media too, there is betta poop embedded in there, which makes me even more happier to do 100% water changes.

for those who don't do 100% water changes often, i am curious as to what happens to the poop in the tank. isn't it harmful in the end? i know it may be necessary for the good bacteria to feed off of.

I think it mostly depends on the size of the tank. I have a 2.5 gallon with my little man and I don't put gravel or anything at the bottom because I feel it only collects filth. I usually do 100% water changes but if not, I sometimes suction the poop out of the bottom with a turkey baster. It gets rid of the poo and keeps the water cleaner, longer.
