Will be setting up my 60 litre tank soon for some cherry shrimp but i also want a centre peice fish in there, obviously something that will not eat my shrimps been looking at a pair of dwarf gouramis or maybe a betta but what would you put in there?

There are loads of options for a 60l.

Is your water hard or soft? And from how far away will you mostly be viewing the tank?

Tanks in my room if that's that you mean and water will be soft to neutral.

The reason I ask from how far away you'll be looking at the tank is that some of the smaller fish (like one of my favs, the glowlight danio) really need to be seen from close up to appreciate them. My glowlight danios just look brown from a few feet away, but when you're sat right next to the tank you can see all the greens, golds and reds on them. If you're going to be sat further away, you'll want fish that are slightly larger with bolder markings or colours.

If you want a shoal as your 'centrepiece', most of the smaller tetras would be good with cherry shrimps; embers, green neons, normal neons, glowlights. Or there's chilli rasboras, glowlight danios, celestial pearl danios, dwarf emerald rasboras, sparkling gouramis.

Or you could have the dwarf or honey gouramis, a betta; possibly apistogrammas, but they might eat shrimps; it depends on the individual fish and the length of your tank; if it's a 24" they'd be ok.

It's so hard to choose, think i would rather get a single bigger fish than a shoal. Still leading towards the dwarf gourami. I want a betta but am worried it will eat the smaller shrimp

A honey gourami shouldn't go after shrimp, and I've never seen it happen in my experience. They're shy fish if you don't scape properly though, so just keep them in mind.

Betta or guppies would eat shrimp more than likely

Im now set of a betta, looks like i may have to go for the bigger amano shrimp.

I have two betta (different tanks obviously!) in with shrimp and neither of them bother, even with the shrimplets. It just depends on your betta.
