hello there, i have been breeding Africans for a while now and i just want a tank for pleasure!

i am planning to have a all male african cichlid setup, my only worry is about what species to have in the tank!

my tank will be a 4 foot 160litre african setup, how many africans can i house in this tank and what species? btw i have a very large canister filteration!

There is no sure way of setting up an all male Mbuna tank as a lot depends on the temperament of the individual fish.

There are a couple of important things that will help though:

Add the intended stocking in one go if possible or in a short space of time (provided the tank is fully cycled etc) - avoid the "newcomer" sceanrio

Add all fish as juveniles and let them grow up together - this can really help with aggression

The only species i personally would rule out for this type of tank are Melanochromis Chipokae and Melanochromis Auratus but things may be easier if you avoid the likes of Lombardoi and Demasoni.

Anything else pretty much goes but be prepared to return problematic fish to your LFS - you will be very lucky if you get it right first time when they reach adult hood.
