I was watching my 55 gallon today at breakfast, and just marveled at how well it turned out. Going in, I fully expected my Black Ruby Barbs to be my least favorite fish in the tank. But they really add such a huge pop of color to the tank. When I got them they were pretty bland, but they have such stunning colors now.
What fish did you buy that surprised you? In appearance or personality?

Yes, I know I don't have enough plants. I have put in about 75+ low light stem plants, and other but they keep dying. I need to get more ferts, but money is tight since I have car payments now.

Checker Barbs are so under rated as a fish. Also, the Chili Rasbora, these fish in a large school of around 50 individuals are really cool.

Dwarf neon rainbow. When the tank light is off the males are a vibrant metallic blue. Their morning displays are breath taking.

That is such exciting news…that’s what I’ve got planned for my new tank, but the fish in the unplanted tank don’t look that exciting, so I’m hoping they will look like the photos on the internet when they are settled in a planted tank 🙂

You should enter your tank in the February TOTM contest which will feature tanks sized at 31 gallons and larger. You already have POTM and a FOTM. You just need a TOTM win for the trifecta.

I have tried in the past, but my tanks never really measure up, it feels like. Maybe next time I will finally have it down.
