What fish do you think is underrated?

Underrated:
Puffers. Not because no one has them and all that, but because people who don't have them, think that all they are good for is their puff. This is not true. They each have a personality, and though mine have a tendency to be DUMB!!! :*) I think they are the greatest fish alive because they just all have a personality all of their own, which some fish don't have. I also think all loaches/botias are underrated.

Overrated:
Erm...no fish, they are all cool. :D :fish: (and I'm beig diplomatic!!! :D )

Underrated :
Peacock Gobies, they are small, more colouful than a guppy and all the personality of a cichlid and such fun to watch.

Keyhole Cichlids: They may not be colourful but they have personality and are one of the few cichlids that can be kept in a community with smaller fish.

Dwarf cichlids (not rams) Brilliant fish just wish i could find some good quality ones around here

Butterfly Fish: Want a fish for the top of your tank. These are your guys beautiful in an ugly kind of way and loads of attitude

Overrated:
Platys/Guppies/Mollies: far to inbred even good quality ones die of strange things and for some reason they just annoy me (sorry can't explain why they just do)

danios: Seem to lack personality

Over rated- neon and cardinal tetras.
guppys(they are so dumb).
Corys-whats with them, mine(hastatu) dont do anything apart from sit at the bottom and hide at the back.my worst mistake ever.

Under rated- Lemon tetras(have loads of personality)
Rarer plecos.

wrs, I said the discus were the pinnacle of cichlids because of the LONG battle that people like Jack Wattley and Wayne Ng fought to make these fish keepable for normal people with normal budgets. They come in every color of the rainbow, they now breed well in captivity, and I don't care who says what, they're some of the most majestic fish out there. Grace, elegance, They bring an almost royal sense of dignity to your tank, and I must assume that all people in here that said bad things about them have either (1) never had one or seen a pretty one up close (2) failed at keeping one and lashed out in rage  I love this forum god bless you ALL!

Well, you assume wrong.

1) i have seen those competition winning discus, i was right there. I still think its ugly, clumsy, and overly expensive.

2) I have never bothered to even try to keep them, completely turned off by how it looks.

No offence to discus lovers, its just my opinion :D

P.T.

I agree with PT here....I don't see the appeal in discus

But then again, a lot of people probably don't see the appeal in platies!!!!

I forgot about the peacock gobies/gudgeons :)

ohhh how did i miss this thread?

overated- all common livebearers (even tho i started out with them i quickly moved on to more 'interesting fish') im sorry but these guys espesh mollies poop more than plecs! plecos are another overated fish.. espsh bristlenose, iv had mine for a while iv still got spots of green algea on the glass... ottos are classed the same imo. i feel the same about l-plecs as well... spendin that much money on a poopin machine.. well what can i say.

underated- HOPLO CATFISH! lol :) i love these guys, loads of personality, i love my danios/tetras and angels just the same... would love a banjo catfish some day to, and i have to agree.. some of the worlds ugliest fish would look pretty in my tank ;)

thats funny. Normal budgets. How many people on normal budgets have enough money to spend on one of those fish. The need big tanks, because they get big, and how many people on a normal budget can afford one of those, plus the fish? Thats like almost $700 on fish and tanks, and all those things that they ned. Personally theyre not the "pinnicale" or however its spelled. The one thats the most popular is.

And the ones I saw had no grace and elegance, because theyre FLAT!! They look like peices of cardoard cut outs of fish.

who cares about a LONG battle about them, and who are those people?

I bet you've got gravel substrate, yes?

Change it to sand then you'll see what all the fuss over cories is about. :D

LOL wrs, $700?? You can keep 4-5 adults in a 55 gallon tank, and you can get them for about 20 bucks apiece for juveniles. And anybody that has been in the tropical fish hobby more than a couple weeks should know who Jack Wattley is, even if you don't like discus. It's all opinion I guess, but you obviously don't understand the struggle it was to successfully keep and breed discus in NORMAL conditions, like my straight city tap water, and traditional foods. My discus will eat flakes right off the top of the water, and I love em! Yall are crazy :D

Over-rated - fish in general (and yet I love them anyway....! - and hows THAT for controversy)

Under-rated: African Clawed Frogs - given proper care they're not the brutal, pollution-making psychopathic monsters some think they are.

well maybe were you get yours theyre 20, but my lfs has them from 55-160 each.

so a 55 is like $200
they nicer ones are 160 so say you get 5

160
x 5= like 800 right there.

so yeah, not everyone could afford those.

even if theyre 20 thats a bit much for something so boring like that.
And anybody that has been in the tropical fish hobby more than a couple weeks should know who Jack Wattley is

and why should we know that? And how many do? ill make a poll and ask.
