Hey everyone! I have an Argentine Black and White Tegu (Monitor Lizard) and there is a "mini pond," so to speak, in his enclosure with a waterfall. He only drinks out of it and doesn't go in it. Therefore, it is more so for show than for him using it for swimming. The tub that is being used for the pond measures 18.5"L x 15"W x 5"D. With the pebbles at the bottom, there is a little over 3" of water. I do not know how many gallons per hour the pump cycles, but it seems to create good flow in the water. The temperature around the pond is 80 in the daytime and 70 at night. I don't know if any of you can estimate the temperature of the water from that because I don't know what the temp of the water is. Like I said, he does not use the pond for swimming and I put feeder fish in and he had no interest in them, so I am not worried about him attacking the fish. I just want fish in there for looks and I just like fish. Is there any fish that would be able to live in here? I was going to get some ghost shrimp to ensure the water stays clean. Thanks for the help and you can view a video of it below!

Hello and welcome!
I personally would not suggest fish for the water feature for a few reasons.
You would need to be able to test for ammonia, nitrite and other harmful things. Because this is your monitor's drinking source as well, you would run into major issues if you needed to add medications or chemicals that would be acceptable in a regular fish tank.
Secondly, it's too small for fish. There's not enough swim space in my opinion for any fish I can think of.
There is also no heater for the water. That would severely limit fish choices and fish like betta that do not have to have a heater, would NOT work with that kind of movement from the pump (additionally water is too shallow).
I know you have your heart set on it, it's just really not a good home for any fish.
I do love the habitat you've created for your lizard :)

Another issue, is that you would need a filter if you were to add fish to this setup. I agree with AmtotheBurr, I don't think any fish are really suitable for this setup. Nice setup for the tegu though!! I bet he loves it! Random aside though, are those cedar shavings for substrate? They can be toxic to some reptiles, so if you feed in the enclosure you may want to be wary of that.
