Looks like some type of barb but no idea.

I agree with the poster above, where did you pick him up? He almost looks like something native..

Looks like a gold barb or the likes.

could be either a gold barb or a young five banded. It looks green in your photo though. Is that just a trick of the light? It would help to know what colour it is

Hello

Thank you for your replies.

We got him from a friend a while ago and he got too big for my tank so I put him in my mums 200l. He is thriving and abt 5 years old now.

He is a silvery gold colour with a red vertical shaded stripe at the top of his body and some small vertical black ones too.

From looking around at pics online he seems to be a cross between an Odessa and Golden barb x I would assume they can't interbreed though :)
I would have said straight Odessa but the red bit is right at the top of his body and not in middle. He also isnt as bright as an Odessa but that could be age/environment xxx

the bands vertically down his body would point to a five banded but in all my fish books they look to be deeper bodied once adults so that would rule that out. The gold barb would then seen the most obvious but yes, there is always a chance of a hybrid. I have no idea though if different barbs can interbreed. Perhaps someone will be along with that knowledge soon :)

I would say most likely Golden barb. It for sure is not an Odessa barb.

Looks a bit like a checkered barb...

Definitely got the body shape of a barb, my guess would be a checkered barb

I think it might be a Puntius semifacciolatus.

It's the original wild colour of the gold barb, so same species, different colour morph. They're normally referred to as 'green barb'.
