Ok so What are some good filter for a 180. I have been thinking Fluval 405 or Rena but dont know the best one? Help would be most appreciated! I just need adice on a good filter! thanks!

The 405 is a good filter, but on a tank that size you would probably need two of them. Cant really give any advice on other models, only ever used the fluval externals myself.

For a 180 gallons I would skip the 405 and go for an FX5 a 405 would not cope by its self. I have an FX5 on my 135g and I really want to get a second, just need to save up first :)

Brilliant filter - easy enough to clean as well :) One tip I have learned about them recently is that the nozzle on the outlet is a bit of a novelty, it looks very industrial as does the rest of the filter but in actual fact the filter head supplied can slow the flow of the water through the filter by upto 15%!! So what people have started doing is using a 2 inch L bend drain pipe cut to size which lets the flow come through more naturally rather than force it out two pipes in two directions.

If you look around on Ebay or AQ you can often find FX5 for about £80 though I would not feel ripped off if I payed £100 for one - but make sure they come with media as it can cost an other £40 on pads and balls etc.

Hey man I looked up the filter fx5 nothing but praise it got. So I was only wondering its quite powerful so will the small fish be ok? Like cardinals and smaller fish?

Would I only need the one filter to make the tank run?

You might be okay with just one FX5 but I would recommend two - though you could always add one at a later date - in mine atm I have an FX5 at one end and a 1000lph powerhead at the other end to keep the flow good and to avoid dead spots.

Though the flow is strong its only doing 317 gallons an hour which in a tank of this size will be quite diluted into the tank so I would not worry about small fish really. I have lemon tetras in my 6 foot with an FX5 on.
