I see a lot fo people saying my "poorly" fish all the time. Is this a saying common in the UK? I imagine it means "sickly" fish but I want to make sure.

Hmmm....good question! I would assume it means sickly, however depending where you are located around the world different things are said so it's hard to say. I'm also from the U.S. so your guess is as good as mine.

It does mean sickly. When someone posts this concerning their fish they generally are from the UK. This is good to know when someone has a "poorly" fish, and hasn't filled out their location in their profile. Many meds coomonly available at most any lfs in the US need a prescription from a vet in the UK, if they are available at all.

poorly means ill at its most basic level but can mean
ailing, prone to illness or prone to breaking (especially manufactured products; poorly made = inferior quality)

We aint weird !!! :shout:
To me emergency section is a 'panic' section for people. Usually its about fish being ill, as the one thing we all have in common here is our love of fish. If they are ill, its an emergency surely, and im sure this section has saved countless little fishys

LOL I thought Poorly was internationally known.

You should try making up your own comedy definitions for the word. Might be fun.

I'm from the US and I knew what "poorly" meant... I hope there's a really big prize involved..... :hyper:

lol this is interesting, they always said that the UK and the USA were 2 country's separated by a common language. but it is a good point, the same word can often have a different meaning elsewhere on the globe. should we sort a US to UK glossary?

Its like the american saying pizza pie, pizza is pie (in Italian, i think? Alessa?)...
So what is actually being said is 'pie pie'...

Yep, we Americans tend to repeat things things.... in case you weren't listening the first time time..... ;)

pizza is just pizza, :p pie in italian is pasticcio (savoury) and torta if it's sweet :)
