grimmy could you answer this please? i would like to no the answer also.grimmy, if you know of this other stuff, perhaps you'd like to tell us? And show us the proof? Because there are only a few things that take care of ammonia in fishtanks, bacteria being the primary one. Live plants can take up ammonia as a food source. Other than that, you need to use a zeolite to adsorb the ammonia or do water changes. There isn't anything else.
live plants dont break down ammonia, they do but they break down small traces of ammonis, they feed on co2 produced by your fish.
if that is true then y do people (including me) inject co2 into their planted aquariums? y not just put ammonia in there when there is no fish. i meen i have a 10g planted with no fish and im spending $100+ on co2 equipment and bottles when i could be spending 95 cents on bottled ammonia according to you.Live Plants use ammonia and can help eliminate ammonia from a tank, obviously thats not why you buy plants, but they do use ammonia (i.e. take it out of the water)
Food is different from what is needed to "breathe". Plants use CO2 like we use oxygen. They take in CO2 and give off oxygen hile we do the exact opposite. Doing what you are saying by only giving the plants food would be the same as taking our air away and only feeding us. We wouldn't live very long if we had nothing to breathe.if that is true then y do people (including me) inject co2 into their planted aquariums? y not just put ammonia in there when there is no fish.
