What Do You Use In Fry Tanks

depends what the fry are

generally no substrate

No substrate, much cleaner.
Our was set up for new fish we were getting then the guppy popped so we put them in there
they love it

But it is a pain to clean I agree
We're investing in another tank for next time :good: no substrate

We use no substrate in birthing tanks and nice natural looking stuff in the larger grow outs and adult tanks for the most part.

Bare bottom, sponge filter, and depending on the fish, a couple of fake/live plants (live would be attached to driftwood/rocks of course) or a cave or two for cover.

My fry tanks are bare bottomed for the first few weeks because I feed microworms and the excess ones die and accumulate on the bottom if you can't see them to remove them. This can devastate cory fry who spend most of their time there.

After they are past the tiny fry stage, I add a bit of sand. :)

Many fry of most species are suseptable to a myriad of obstacles/diseases in the early days of life and as cleanliness is a key to minimising such obstacles then the least amount of material in the fry tanks is essential. So its no substrate for most species for me.
Dont forget the waterchanges in the fry tanks, this is essential along with cleanliness and proper nutrition for good growth.
