i changed the gravel in my tank yesterday and added a few more plants? what do you think? ive gone for the small smooth black stones
i changed it because the white gravel was going an awful colour.sadly tho i have lost a rasbora.maybe he was too stressed.ive tested the water and alls good.its still a little cloudy tho.im getting my new external filter this week so i can get rid of the internal thank god.

Very nice.

I think your Bolivian might appreciate some company...

i have just had to get rid of my other bolivian as my remaining one bullied it so much it would hide and not eat.should i risk getting another one?

Rams do bicker, it settles down. I had a male and female who didn't get on at all for then overnight he just accepted her. Then I added a third female and its even better. Luckily he hasn't formed a pair with either and if he did I'd remove the spare female.

They're social fish, and they're cichlids. They live together and they have a pecking order.

she was pecking at the others face and body.very badly.this was not bickering.i may get another but if that does not work out then i will just keep her on her own.

Well whatever works for you, but like I say, the more the merrier, else it'll be pretty miserable on its own.

its a bit of a no win situation unless you get lucky and find a pair that get on. from your pic, it seems that the ram has some stress colouring on it. one of mine is similar, and it gets picked on, like the experience you had. but, removing one and leaving it on its own might also stress it out, however at least with only one nothing it getting picked on.

the ram has only been this colour since the gravel change.shes normally not like this at all.ok i will give another a go.i will lt you know how it goes guys.

You don't have to, it's just two opinions! If the ram seems alright to you, it's your tank, your fish, stick with one.

if the gravel change has triggered the rams colour, it might get used to it and end up looking normal. i wouldnt worry abotu keeping it on its own. its hard to find rams that get on with eachother, especially if youre trying to find a friend for one you already have. the easiest way is to buy 5 or 6, and wait to see if 2 pair up then get rid of the rest. but this isnt always practical, or cheap.

I have found three better than two. I bet I'd find five better than three. Two won't always work out.

no i was thing about adding another.ive always wanted 2.i will give it one more try and see how things go.you never know  im gonna add a few more rasboras too as ive lost 2 and only have 3 now.

I'd get those schooling species (rasboras, tetras) up to at least 10 fish per species and would add live plants (or more silk plants, if you really don't want live). A plain, black background would also make it look better.

dont want live plants.i prefer fake.
Any particular reason?

There's *someone* on here who has some lovely fake plants that look almost real… I'll let you know who it is when I remember in case you want to find out which brand they are.
