What Do You Say To Your Parents/partners When You Want Another Tank?

The first tank was for my daughters birthday. Hubby promised her she could have one. Her birthday which was in March passed no tank. All I kept hearing was I promise. I'm a firm believer that when you make a promise you keep it. In July I got tired of waiting for him to keep his promise so when he went away for the weekend my daughter and I went out and bought a 10 gallon complete. I set the darn thing up right on top of his dresser. When he came home I told him you did promise her a tank. She went a little overboard and overstocked the thing so naturally we had to get a bigger tank. I switched the 10g to my sons room and put the new 20g on the dresser. He didn't notice for months. Then we needed a hospital tank which I got on sale and put it on the dresser in our room.
I also have a 55g I am waiting to set up when I can make room. It's hiding in the kids treehouse right now where he can't find it.

The other 1/2's got a soft spot for anything that swims so its real easy for me:

"Sweetheart I've seen a tank on freecycle, tff, ebay etc it's really cheap and it'll be an investment, we don't have to set it up now  but in the future and its a fraction of what we could pay new"

That normally works for me

ive tried please please please please please please please, but didnt work.

sorry i couldnt help you but least ive eliminated an option :shifty:

lucky begger!! i have to creep for months and begg!!

we argue over which tank to get rid of

we have absolutely no more time, money or space for more tanks at the moment so it doesn't come up anymore.

given appropriate space etc it's fine though, Ian's as fish mad as I am. we can't wait to mvoe so we can upgrade some of our tanks to bigger ones.... cos bigger ones are easier ......... yeah right

1st tank: Can I have a tank for my birthday?

2nd tank: you know how much i love my first tank, theres a second hand one going cheap on the forum near us.....

3rd tank: practical fishkeeping are doing this deal where if you subscribe you get a free tank, you know how much ive always wanted to subscribe, i might as well do it now and get the tank....

4th tank: I need a hospital tank incase my fish get a contagious disease...

5th tank: ive stocked my hospital tank, i need new hospital tank...

thats what ive said for each of my tanks :D

Thank you gea7x, just turned on to see whats happening on the site and this really made me laugh, must remember this when I want a new tank!!

That's simple, I get a tank, he gets dvds or posters or something similar. I've already told him I want a new tank for my goldfish for my birthday, hopefully we'll have moved before then(so I can get a huge tank), if not we'll just have to find a place for another 4ft!!!

just go out and buy one and stop being a f****t.....

lol try it mate :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

well i reminded her how much she loves the 2 blonde plecos she bought. so if she wants to keep them we need a 6 or 8 2x2 but we will go for the 8 coz i love my bala ( 3.5 inch now). lol not sure she knows what the plumbing will be like though, coz i ain't doing water changes in a tank that size by hand!

Hey hey, just ues a really big sigphon out of the nearest window, and use a heated hosepipe to re-fill - gently!

I'm pretty lucky cuz my mom asks me what she's getting me for my b-day and she just says "ok", then she gets it for me! (Like the new 20 gal I'm getting in a month! :hyper: ) Also, I'm lucky cuz my mom gave me the guest bedroom and now I have two bedrooms! She said I can keep most of my tanks there. Was hard to convince her to get another one but I did it!

Just tell them something like "It would look so good in the living room! everyone will pass by and go like "Ohh! Those fish are pretty!" And I'd do all the work!" or "Please mom! My fish are gonna get too big and I need another tank. You know the fish store won't take it back... It's like living in a closet! Do you want to see it suffer?" or.... "Just think of how educational it is to have fish, I can learn a lot about science (ammonia, Ph, Nitrates....etc)" Or "do you want me to ask for a puppy instead?, at least fish don't take up as much room as other pets, they don't scratch the furniture, they don't bite your shoes, they don't make noise and they're sooo pretty!"

That worked for me :shifty: HTH!

Nothing!! Just buy, bring it home and once there, too late for them to be able to object :good:

I find that reminding them I could be buying another horse, rather than a fish tank works quite well.

"Hey, you know, we need another fish tank...the Cory fry are staring to grow up, and this tank is getting crowded."

"You have enough fish tanks."

"Wow, I saw this great horse the other day. He was a beautiful Thoroughbred. Since I have a little extra time that won't be spent caring for another fish tank, I think we could add another horse to the herd."

"A fish tank sounds good."

Works like a charm. :p

i went to the LFS and saw exactly what i wanted or needed more than wanted really.
wrapped my arms around it and did my "SCRAT" from the film Ice Age impression  :fun:  , there was no chance i was going to let go, had to pay for one of them since i needed two..........Bugger it, but worth it,
if i make my partner laugh then that tends to work everytime
