Not sure if this is an emergency, but I'm concerned about my 2 angelfish possibly having worms.
Firstly, what do they look like, as I've heard you can sometimes see the worm protruding from the vent/anus?
Secondly are there different types of worms?
How dangerous to the health of the fish are they?
Are they contagious?
How do you treat them?

Thanks in advance.

This link will show you the different types of worms fish can have, some of the pics are not clear but the info is sound.

If you are looking into treating the angels (if they do have worms) I have tried a number of treatments and so far Waterlife Sterazin has worked the best for me although due to another worm breakout in another tank I have decided to try KUSURI WORMER PLUS/DISCUS as I too have angels and rams I need to treat in this tank. You can find the above product on ebay for a very reasonable price.

Worms cause internal damage to the organs. Once a fish is really skinny the infestation has done the damage.
Also internal parasites cause bacterial infections.
The waterlife med not very good as it just controls them.

Camallanous worms will look red when there been feeding on the host.

Signs of internal parasites are.
Long stringy white poo. or clear mucas poo. Red poo.
Worms prutruding from the anus.
Fish will look skinny or bloated.
Enlarged anus or red inflamed anus.
Sunken in belly sometimes.
Bent spine sometimes.
Fish will sometimes swim on its side.

There this med.

But dosn't treat camallanous worms.

Thank you both for all the info. I don't think it's worms anymore, but I will keep an eye on them still.
