What Can I Stock In A 30 Litre Tank

i have recently received a 30L tank from my friend who didnt want it anymore for free.
it came with 3 danios, 1 khulli loach and 1 Betta.

the tank was in a pretty bad state completely covered in algae so what i have done is transferred them over to my 5ft tank.

now my question is i want to o something different with the 30L tank. its a bow front, 30cm length and cant rememeber the other dimensions off the top of my head but it is taller then it is length ways...

i was quite interested in trying a out a planted shrimp tank. would my Betta be ok in that kind of set up. and also what other options do i have in terms of stocking. i would like some cardinals in there but am afraid its too small

it has one of those trickle filters built into the hood and when it was running before it was blowing the betta around everywhere..

You could have a Betta and Shrimp - or Pygmy corys depending on the footprint. Or for an oddball, how about a dwarf puffer?

If your not too attached to the fish at present you have quite a few interesting small communities. lljdma06 has a fantastic 8 gallon tank with pics here http/www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/321920-erethistes-jerdoni/ IMO that is a fantastic tank and really shows just how diverse small tanks can be. With varying micro rasboras and tiny danio species with pygmy catfish you also have options of badis fish a good list is here http/www.seriouslyfish.com/kb.php?t=ps&s=badis then you have the pygmy cories and sparkling gourami as well as all the small shrimp available now.

But if you went down the betta route I think it would be a case of the betta and a school of something like cardinals, neons or rummy nose or shoal of dwarf cories. With shrimp I believe its hit and miss with bettas some will kill them others will ignore them and its okay.

You could attatch a piece of coarse filter sponge over the outflow to reduce the force of the water coming out and make it more comfortable for the betta, or place tall wood, ornament or a tall broad leafed plant beneath the area to deflect the flow. Alternatively you could simply not use the filter ( if it's on a spearate switch from the light that is ) and use a sponge filter inside the tank ( very safe and generally the best type to use with bettas )

If he's had tankmates before then he should be ok with some Amano shrimp, which are larger than cherries and a little less likely to get munched on. I wouldn't bother going with fish for tankmates as it's only around 6 gals which is really only big enough for the betta ( shrimp generally don't count as they don't require much swimming space and produce so little waste as to not even affect the filter's capacity)

ok well truthfully i dont want the betta as i would like just a pure shrimp tank.. (ive decided)

but alot of people say that they produce so little waste but the filter is quite powerful even for that size tank. i worked it out and turnover is 10x the tank volume. could i get away with not using the filter at all. and maybe get way with it by doing weekly water changes...

would a dwarf puffer be ok in a tank that size.. am looking into that as they look like cute little buggers.

You could leave the main filter off and just use a small sponge filter

all corydoras species must be in a shoal, because they are naturally a shoaling fish.

ok maybe 6-7 x-rays and im not sure if they fin nip for a betta

wouldnt the tank be a bit small for danios as these are very lively. and now that there in the 5 footer there use the whole tank. would be a shame to put them in something soo small.

i was thinking having loads of khulli loachs. would they go with shrimp.
