What Breed Of Fish Is This?

I recently bought a new tank and it came with 3 fish which i havent been able to identify?

they are quite long, around 10cm and they seem to look like a platy (similar mouth) but when i looked in my book they look a little like a killifish though not with the same mouth. they are green coloured and humped back??

Look Like Golden wonder Panchax, They are predatory and will feed on fish under 2 inches.

I do have neon tetras in there also though but it doesnt attack them?

It is a strange looking fish - and in fact i did consider the Golden wonder Panchax however the mouths on mine look quite different?

they are defintly golden panchax, Aplocheilus lineatus. max at 10 cm so yours ill be fully grown. they have been known to attack and eat small fish but naturally will only pre on sick and/or injured fish as their main diet onsists of insects and insect larvae. i would say unless they are a particularly bad tempered singleton they would be safe with smaller fish aslon as they are well fed. i used to breed these and the green panchax, the same but metallic green. they spawn in floating plants and bushy plants or spawning mops, not sure if they would breed when they get old, which i would suggest yours are at 10 cm nd hump backed!!

Hi Dave,

thank you so much for the information. I would love to breed these fish as they are quite unusual and pretty. Are they easy to gender and also which does the hump imply as only one has a really distintic hump?

Mine are quite quiet ones and stick together, mainly floating near the top of the tank. Would they need to be separated to breed? ( i have quite a few tetras and danios in there) and are they easy to breed?

These are a very easy species to breed but I would give them a tank on their own.
