Im considering re-homing alot of my fish and am wondering peoples opinions, experiences on this set up:

130g 5ft tank.

1 Severum (already have, 6" at present)
1 Senegal Birchir (5" at present)

then adding, from small btw

1 Oscar
1 Green Terror

That will be all thats in the tank, FX5 filtration btw.

I think the Severum, Oscar and birchir will be fine, its the GT I have no experience with and wonder if it will be possible.
??

Hi hun well as alway's it's cichlid's, i would say give it a go, your sev and senagal are big enough to go with a juvi oscar so it's more the case will the sev accept the oscar then same with gt, some are aggressive and again some people manage just fine with that mix,
sorry iam not much help but you may have to rehome something again, it's a case really of, once rehoming all the other fish totally rearange tank remove the sev and add first the small oscar floating the sev in the same time, then leave sev in the bag for a good half hour before releasing it, giving the small oscar time to get it's bearing's

Hey Minx
IME GTs vary greatly in temperament and from what i've seen Females can be just as aggressive as the Males if your unlucky, Saying that though if you buy one small i'd say you will probably be ok, (However with our suppliers we only ever get in GTs that are 5-6"+ so i'm not sure how easy it will be to find a small one)

So do I Glenbo, Ive been measuring up and I can fit a rio 300 in the space where I currently have a rio 180, the rio 180 would move to where the roma 125 is and the roma 125 can move to the hallway (who needs to actually get up the stairs ), meaning I could move most of the current stock, into the rio 300, thus giving me the chance to put the GT/Oscar combo in the 400!!

All very complicated I know, I will have to re-home one of the smaller sev's and possibly the ghost knife, definatley the FM (but I want to rehome him anyway) but otherwise it should be ok.

Now I just need to find the cash for the rio 300, simples

Personally, I think that would be a great combo, not unreasonable to hope it will work LT. Always hear of GT’s being slow growers, so size depending would add the O and GT at the same time. Have never kept a GT, but as it grows it may become more aggressive so might need to keep a watch-out. In a 5 foot tank I think 3 big cichlids and a birchir would look great and have enough space to their own, but as always its trial and error.

I know of someone that keeps mature Festae with Geo’s…so it can be done, just need to be vigilant, and have a back-up plan in case things go sour.

Now you put it like that Minxy it sounds a good idea mate, how about put your Rainbows and geos with your Aurus after you have grown your brood on?

You could get a sailf fin (gibbiceps) to go with your monsters also,i love mine :)

Your Sev will be safe if you grow the Oscar up with him but the Ocar may not be! remmember I told you I was bought a albino Oscar as a red spotted Severum from Pets@Home? well i kept him in there for a week before i took him back and got my Turq Sev and the poor dude was getting a right pasting from my Gold Sev! to the point where I had to put him in a breeding net to recover/grow back his fins...

I was contemplating keeping him but it wasent gonna work.

Well I've decided to rehome the 2 juvi Sev's, the daemons, the FM and my ghost knife. Soon as they are gone, I can sort out the tanks and source my O and GT :D

Well Ive just caused chaos in my tanks, left now in the rio 400 are the Large red spot severum, the birchir, the FM and the Ghost knife, so tomorrow Im off to look for my O and GT :D

Hopefully the ghost and FM will be rehomed soon.

Now in the rio 180 are the other 2 sev's (both being rehomed), 5 Daemon (all being rehomed) plus the rainbows, corydoras, rasboras, phantom and the Nicaraguan. BN Plec, Little busy in there, but once the fish being rehomed are gone, should be fine.

Well its all working well so far, added the little O (pics in Oscar club) and my severum hasnt taken the slightest bit of notice of it him, now to find a GT :)
