My tank is quite high and so trying to lean all the way down, get the fishing line around and around the wood without being able to see what I'm doing, as well as trying my hardest to not move the wood is what is difficult! The wood is very light and doesn't sink very well and so I didn't want to have to disturb it. I was also always told never to introduce metal to the tank? How do you cut it?

Update on the Gourami's as well, unfortunately the male has died today =\ I don't know why. It just never came out from under the pump at all and has now decided to give up the ghost! The female is doing much better now though, it was as if she felt she had to keep going back to the male and keeping him company! She is out and about all the time now and doing fine.
There is no chance I am getting it out again!! It's secure anyway, not going anywhere so I shall just wait for it to attach by its roots! How long does it normally take?

Cut it out, you are going to want to trim the roots anyway so its no big deal if you cut a bit off. It will do very poorly in the pot and grow much slower then it already will. It is about the slowest grower you have.

Cut it out of what? Its not in the pot anymore...I attached it to the wood. Wont cutting the roots do it damage?!

If it is attached to the wood just leave it. For future reference, cutting most plants roots (not sure about plants with rhizome) is the preferable thing to do when replanting as they get bruised roots that are inoperable and prevent growth of new roots if they are put into the gravel without trimming, which encourages new growth. I am mostly referring to plants that are put in gravel there.

I've got numerious anubias in my tank and for a third time I'll say, cutting the roots won't cause damage and it will make it attach to your wood faster. If you want to make two anubias out of one, cut part of the rhizome with at least 3 leaves on it and plant it on a different part of the wood.

I don't want to make two anubias out of one yet, I want to see how it grows first and then at a later date decide on wether I want to split it. There are short and long roots so I'll just see how it goes, if it doesn't seem to be attaching at all over time, I'll snip them. I'm just happy with the way it is for the moment and I'll see how things progress.

I think the plant in the middle of the tank, with the long leaves is already dying :( Its leaves seem to be falling off and being blown about the tank. What makes them do this so quickly, yet other plants do fine?

Some plants melt when moved to new water conditions but can regrow back from nothing so give it a chance and see how it goes.
If it's the one in the middle, I maybe wrong but it doesn't look aquatic to me. The LFS often sells these as they look good and people buy them, but they can't survive under water for long and melt and die.

Don't be lazy, cut the put up to get it out.

I did think this to be honest as I have had something similar before and been told it was non aquatic, but it wasn't exactly like this one so I thought id give it a shot haha. I'll keep it in and see if it deteriorates any further.
