What Am I Going To Do With 100 Snails . . . ?

Not happy i have had setup a tank now for about 6 weeks with nothing in, i bought some plants about a month ago and planted them, some survived, most died and the others are now dieing off.

However, i took a close look at the tank today, and there must be, on the glass alone over 60 snails, a couple with shells, most without . . . What am i going to do with all these snails Where are they going to go? can i put fish in the tank with them?

I was planning on moving the fish from my 240 litre tank into this tank (180l) tomorrow, can i still do that now?

So many snails i washed all the plants in cold water before i entered them into the tank. As i said there is nothing in this tank apart from gravel, the plants and a small piece of bogwood, no food and the temperature is around 30oC

But, there has never been anything in the tank, the only thing i have put in is gravel, tap water with stress coat, a plant collection and thats it, nothing else has entered the tank apart from plant food.

The snails will eat tiny bits of organics from the plants and even dead/dying plant leaves.

If they are just small and the tank is pretty well maintained, they'll probably die off in a little while.

Snails won't harm the fish or anything. In fact, they're pretty good algae eaters

Thank you, i dont want to kill them thought. If i go over the gravel with a pump im guessing id end the lives of 50 of them , then if i went over the glass with algae sponge another 50.

If you are planning on getting some kind of loaches there would be tons of snacks for them , either that or give the snails to someone that has puffer fish, sure I saw a thread the other week where someone was asking for snails

Is them dieing the only real way? i presume a puffer fish eats them too? How long should it take for most of them to become big enough to touch and get hold of, the smallest are like mabye 3 grains of sugar size biggest has small shells. Do i need to make sure there are none in my filter ?

i had a massive infestation of snails after a couple of months of having my new tank, i was directed to zebra loachs, which after about 2 weeks of having them they looked like they had taken steroids they literally munched all the little critters without me noticing, id advise if you want rid to just get them guys they were and still are a pair of my favourite active fishies

personally I like snails as they help keep tanks clean and don;t harm fish. Just add your fish and ignore baby snails who will fend for themselves. My trumpet snails had babies and I only realised when I saw a few snails 5mm long, much smaller than the original parents.Kept them all

these will just be pest snails, they wont grow big at all/ Your thinking of apple snails i'd imagine.

They wont harm the filter, might hear one or 2 get smashed to bits by the motor but it'll be fine
