I've never tipped the bucket, but I have had the syphon tube come out of the bucket and didn't notice it till I started feeling my feet get wet. Ended up with about a gallon and a half of water on the carpet. Then there was the time I almost tripped over my 2 year old son with a 2.5 gal bucket filled to the rim. Yea, I had to give him a bath after that.

this reminds me of the day i kept freckles in a 5 gallon bucket for his water change... i put him back in his tank... picked the 5gallon bucket up (full of dirt water) started to carry is outside and bam! my lil sis come around the corner! we collide and the bucket goes flying... there goes the phone for a month my dad was pissed... the house smelled of dirty water for the longest times needless to say my dad and me switched rooms so i have a bathroom in my room now hehe makes water changes so simple!

Lucky girl having a bathroom in your room...I have to cart my buckets around in and out of rooms to reach my bathroom.

The worst water changing incident I ever had was when I was trying to deep clean my 10 gal. See I had fed live bloodworms, I guess a few had gotten away....each time I fed (that is once a day), and so there was THOUSANDS of them at the bottom of the gravel--still living! So I hauled the tank across the house, trying to avoid cats, dogs, parents. I get it to the bath tub, and I start to tip the rest of the water in. Course lots of those gross little bloodworms came spewing out. But the water wasn't draining in the tub, So I set the tank down outside the tub. I leaned down to get the plug and the towel slipped. I ended up with both arms and a leg in the nasty fish water that was crawling with live bloodworms! It still gives me the shudders!

Glad to know I'm not the only clutz. I've done most of the same things at least once. I've actually watered the carpet twice when the hose came out of the bucket and I didn't realize it. I've also tripped carrying a bucket of dirty fishwater to the sink and wound up spilling about half of it on the cat. She really loved that!!

I'm glad my fish aren't like that. I scoop them out and hang them in a net inside of the back of the tank while doing their vacuuming. No one minds at all (especially since I feed them right after).

I think we've all not noticed that stupid short hose wiggle it's way out of the bucket and leak water all over the place (lucky for me I have industrial grade tiling in my office so all i have to do is mop it up afterwards...I don't even worry about it anymore). For the life of me I can't figure out why they made that hose SO freakin SHORT. It's ludacris really.



You should try finding something Harvey REALLY likes..and don't ever give it to him..except after water changes....then he'll learn to realize..he gets a yummie after a water change..and might not be so pissy afterwards. Mine know they get frozen blood worms afterwards. I stick my hands in there and yank out plants and chase them with nets (they like to run and get in corners..little buggers) and all sorts of stuff..and never seem to really give a flying hoot.

Hmm, that's a really really good idea.

Might just work with peas. He LOVES them.
He even goes down to the bottom of the tank (which he's TERRIFIED OF usually) to chase them, even though he flies back up to the top once he's gotten one. He doesn't even do that with bloodworms!

I'll give it a try.

I have definitely had the siphon hose come out of the bucket, spraying me in the face, drenching the carpet, everything. My fish laugh at me. Seriously, laugh. Come right up to the glass and stare at the freak show.
