I'm not sure where to post this so sorry if it's in the wrong section. Don't assume that because your neighbors well water is good for fish yours will be too. My well water needed very little done to it. No metals ph acceptable maybe a little too hard but thats it. On one side of me the well has heavy and I mean HEAVY iron deposits. They go thouugh a filter a week so their clothes don't turn brown during laundry. On the other side of me they use bottled water due to rotten egg smell in the water (sulfer) so please check your water before doing anything else. Just because your neighbors water is ok yours may not be.

You use a well?

You could always set up a water-butt, and use the rain water for aquarium water?

I live out in the boonies and city water doesn't come out here. It's easier just adjusting Ph levelsthan collecting rain water sometimes we get very little rain and then it pours but lately we are in a dry spell and when it does rain we don't get much.
