Unless you like the sort of Pop Idol/Soap formula (...and lots of people do - and that's ok...), there was very little on TV again this year.

I was so glad for video and cable. If I'd been trapped with terrestrial TV all this time I would have cried. What's on? An Eastenders special, a come dancing special, an Emmerdale Farm special, a lot of blokes doing cooking shows (please come back Delia).

The only things we watched and enjoyed was "Finding Nemo" and that's not exactly a new film, Polar Express, and the original Christmas Carol (Alastair Sim) - which is great, but really, that's three shows in a week :( I could have fitted those in to one morning.

I was just reading tonight that the "big" movie for New Years Day is "Fantastic Four" (cert PG) - but they put it on at 8:10pm - nice going, so the kids will be in bed anyway. The rest of it reads like it did in 1975 when I was watching it, Pollyanna, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Mary Poppins.....

Other peoples thoughts?

i only have a digi box and half the channels have poor signal and i can't say i've notice what was on tv, i was too busy entertaining, cooking and tidying up after. i think shrek was on at one stage. i tend to play games, twisters is always a crowd pleaser for young and old(er) - especially after a few glasses of grape juice :hey: lol

well the Dr Who special, did make one bright spot. but only one

Ah i ended up been given a Nintendo Wii for my christmas present by by fiance so i played that for most of the day with my fiance and some friends, although we did watch the eastenders special, i do agree with you that tv wasn't that great on christmas day.

OMG its been diabolical this year. thank god for film 4 they have been showing a miyazaki film everyday.

Everything on was cr*p, even today. There were a few descent films, all which I had seen atleast once.Luckily I have loads of dvd's. :good: haha
film4 saves me sometimes, such a great channel.

total rubish tv and why do all the soaps have someone dying or other misrable scenes they need to jolly it up abit , however i did sit with the kids and watch Elf yesterday and thought i was hillarious, funniest crimbo film i,ve seen in a long time.
regards Angel

On the other hand, January looks like it's bringing mucho goodness back to us... New Torchwood series, new series of Kingdom, one-off Wire in the Blood special at some point, Waking the Dead (not sure when it starts though), James Nesbitt as Prince Charming in Cinderella.... And so forth. It's just not at all good that Robin Hood has finished for this series :(

Ooh, and film wise this tear, new Indiana Jones, new Mummy film, Sweeny Todd, and the another one in most of the series/trilogy sets.

I remember watching Mary Poppins with my parents and not liking it, I liked the nursery tidying up scene and the fox but that was it, I couldn't understand why my parents kept saying 'watch it's a children's film' - it's not, it's for grown-ups to relive their own childhood. I tried Dylan with it yesterday and he talked, rolled about on the floor, and eventually went off to play on his computer.

We watched Fantastic Four last night, there wasn't really much of a story though. When you compare the likes of Spiderman, which ran for a similar time and had a great and involved story, there wasn't really a lot happening. I put it on for Bu when he was in bed and he asked me to turn it off and put Peter Pan (dvd) back on.

Doctor Who wasn't as good as it could have been. There have been too many 'save the space ship' scenarios.

At least new Primeval and Torchwood are on the way.

I agree overall the TV wasn't very good but I really liked the Film 'Finding Neverland' that was on last week some time.
