30min ago my wife shouts, "Hunny! There is something wrong with ur fish, he looks dead/dying!" sure enough, one of my mosquito rasboras is barely swimming, sittin on the bottom of the tank, getting pushed around by the current. i freak out, do a 70% WC fill it back up 80% and then do another 80% WC.
im so mad at myself.
i did the weekly WC of this little 8g tank on monday, i did a large tank cleaning, adding a new heater since the old one was acting up, did some plant maintenance, and then havent really looked at it since. now that i think about it. i noticed 2 rasboras hanging out in the top corner above the filter, in a spot ive never ever seen them go to. then either this morning or last night i noticed the 3 amano shrimp hiding in a small crevice they never ever go in. Ive been busy with a business deal, and ive been thinking about it and working non stop the last 2 days, and for some reason, i missed all the signs. right now the 4 seemingly uneffected rasboras are starting to swim around like normal, and the shrimp are all cruising around like everything is cool.
2 rasboras are twitching and barely moving. one is worse than the other, barely moving at all. while the other will lie still for a minute or so and then squirm his way around the tank. i assume im going to lose them both.
i checked the ammonia and nitrite of the original water, and they both are perfect. so i guess something contaminated the water when i did the change on monday.
man im bummed out. this is pretty much my first fish loss ive had that wasnt the day after i bought the fish. and today i was even thinking how great it was that i havent lost any of these mosquito rasbora, and how i need to add more shrimp to the tank.
DANG IT ALL. i dont know who to be mad at.
