came to a descision last night to close down 1 of the tanks, we're struggling for time at the moment as we're trying to do the house up to sell in a few years, between the diy, housework, cats, social life and other hobbies we're just not getting a minute to ourselves at the moment and nothings getting done. so we've decided to slim down on the tanks so we've less work to do with them and can have a bit more time to ourselves.

the first tank i set up was a community and for 5 years i've had one in some form or another. it'll be odd not to have one. but it's really the only tank we're prepared to part with for now. we are setting up another in it's place but it's only the pfk nano so we'll have loads more room in the bedroom, be able to have a telly in there and maybe even a little bit of time to ourselves.

gonna be a bit wierd to not have anything like that in the house, and i'm sorry to see some of the fish go, but I know it's for the best in the long run.

so anyway yeah i'm a little upset this morning about loosing it, but i guess it's like a transition period or something when you move away from having any 'standard' set up's so everything you have is specialist in some way. like growing up or something!

I was upset when I took down my first tank but like you said, it just gets too much sometimes.... I wanna do a nano reef but I know I def don't have the time or the money so it's a project for the future :good:

well we wanna concentrate on Ian's high tech planted and the reef tank cos that's just getting sorted now. other than this there's just Oscar's tank which doesn't take any looking after and I couldn't part with him, and the bettas which don't take any work and of course they only live about 2 years so we can close them down as and when the fish pass on if we don't want the tanks.

Bettas can and often do live up to 5 years of age. They are also a bit of work lol sorry But in my expirence Bettas take alot of time money and can live for about 3 or 4 years average longer is not unheard of though

Miss Wiggle, sounds like a plan that you've thought about lots!! I can't imagine how weird it'll be at first, but like you said, you'll get used to it :) And I'm sure lots of us know what you mean by it getting a bit much at times!

I'm sure Miss Wiggle knows what's going on with her own tanks!

EDIT: spelling

betta's are practically considered an annual in the wild, they do do better in captivity if well looked after, but they're lifespan is certainly shorter than a lot of community fish which is really my point! and yes they do take some looking after, but in comparison to the marine or high tech planted tank's they're no work at all, so it is gonna make things easier for us.
