Went to the lfs to get stock, first I picked a firemouth then I picked the convict, the man said I cannot have a convict - I asked why, he said firemouths and convicts are not compatible and firemouths have to live with their own, I told him I knew what I was doing and No they dont, he refused to sell it to me, He was being a good caring person but he was wrong.


Really weird, he wouldnt sell me any other cichlid but firemouths.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but can't firemouths and convicts cross breed?

If they can...maybe he didn't want you turning up with a bunch of unsellable hybrids in a few months

Hmmm but he said firemouths cant go with ANY other cichlid which isnt true and he also said Oscars can only be housed with oscars

Well tbh it makes a refreshing change to hear any shop worker saying no instead of "Yeah it'll be fine!" to every combination. Perhaps in HIS experience these fish need to be with their own kind. I'm inclined to agree about the oscars.

Go elsewhere or buy them on separate occasions - it's his stock to refuse, after all.
