I took on a tank full of fish a week ago, all fish have improved except one tetra who has a white sheen to his fins, I managed to get a picture of the fish using the flash which showed up something I have never seen before. Firstly I am hoping its blood vessles repairing the damage to the fin, second I am dreading it is what it looks like some strange worm. Any ideas.

That looks horrible, Really nasty stuff. Do you know what it is? Parasites? :S

ewww, not come across that before i hope someone can help you with regards to that, i will say though that bad water quality is the cause of many ailment, can you tell us what the water stats are, and how often you change the water, what meds have you tried so far

I didnt test the stats of the tank they came out of, the tank they are now in has 0 everything as they are getting a daily water change at the moment, I am trying natural at the moment with Vitazin to boost their vitamins and garlic infused food to boost their immune system. The other fish had various lumps, bumps etc that was suspected lymphosistis, but it appears a bacterial problem as after a week the rest of the fish have all cleared up, except this one.

My first thought was a fin rot, or even velvet also know as rust. Chloroquine is an effective treatment. If using this treatment (a vet should be able to provide it for you) then the instructions will need to be followed carefully, and recheck the fish in 7-10 days for any more symptoms.
Does the fish have any small yellowish lumps like really small ich spots?

This one has no lumps or bumps just this whitness and weird thing, but a couple of the others had some on their bodies, one had a lump on its tail another on its pectoral fin, all these lumps, bumps and white bits have all gone from the other fish after a week of daily water changes.

What looks like a worm on the dorsal fin could actually be the veins/ ribbing structure that gives the fin stength, just all coiled up from the previous damage done by the rot or fin nipping from other fish.
While the two black worm type shadows in the tail I am not so sure about. Although a fish infected with Mycobacterium can develop internal lumps from where the body has walled off the infection (in plants this is called decompartmentalisation) and these form little nodules or "granulomas" within the tissue. This segregating off prevents the illness being effectively treated with antibiotics. To rule this illness out a vet would need to study various bits of body tissue under a microscope.
The fish can have this illness from youth from infected parents, from eating a fellow diseased fish, or from periods of great stress. Poor tank sanitation, low oxygen and low pH make ideal condtions for this disorder.

Thanks Baccus :) I have studied the pic more on the pc, the photograph of the screen is not great, but on the screen I can see it clearer. That on the fin does look like it joins the ray so hopefully that is what it is :)

No worries, happy to try and help

Nearly a week on and the red "things" have turned white, I am not sure if this is a good or bad sign. Pics of today, sorry the quality is not great, I blow the pic up on the pc and take a picture of the screen.
