One of my female guppies has a crook in her back, wobbles from side to side when she swims, and has her gills flared out. The crook in her back is modeled in the picture (shown from above) and is right in the stomach area of the fish. Onc and a while she will wobble and "flip over," and she gets flipped when other fish bump into her. It is just her, so I doubt it is the water. The filter is very slow. Her gills are stretched out as far as they will go, and she is gasping at the top.
Ammonia: 0
PH: 7.5
Temp: 73 F

Could she have suffered a broken back, either from rough handling when being caught or a freak accident within the tank and a collision with another fish?
Flared gills sounds like she is struggling to breathe which could be related to any possible spinal damage.

The only other cause of a bent back (aside from a genetic defect) that I can readily think of is fish TB (tuberculosis).

How many other fish are in the tank (and its size) as well as the damaged/ injured back she could also be suffering from lack of dissolved oxygen in the tank, hence the gasping at the surface.

Update: She has a "fuzzy" pale spot on the spot of the crook, and it has little red spots on it. She is now struggling to swim.
There are 9 or so platies and 3 other guppies in my 20 gal. Many fry are at the bottom but they are tiny.
I noticed I had some hydra in my tank. Would this cause it?

Bent spine can be caused by injury, birth defect, vitamin deficiency, fish tb, internal parasites, old age.

Do any of your fish look skinny, or have signs of sunken in bellies?
What does the fish waste look like when they go to the toilet?.

The red spots can be due to septicemia, or external parasites.
How big are the spots. Are they the size of tiny pin prick marks?
Also check for red streaking in fins, or body.

Sorry, I had to euthanize the poor girl last night. She was floating at the top laying on her side gasping.
Thank you for all your help anyway!

Sorry for your loss.
