Buying fish online has some pros and cons. The good thing about buying online is that you have access to wider range of stock, and so you can pick precisely the species you want for a particular community. But on the downside, you don't pick the particular specimens. The delivered fish may be smaller than you expected, in which case mixing them with larger tankmates could be difficult. You can't pick out the most colourful fish, and perhaps not even the right number of males and females.

If you shop from a reputable dealer, risks are minimal. The best stores ensure fish are shipped overnight and arrive early the next morning. Most online retailers also include a guarantee of some sort. The guarantee may be inapplicable to some delicate species (such as piranhas). If a species isn't guaranteed, you'd do better buying it locally and bringing it home quickly.

Dinnae forget you've got to add £20 odd for delivery, which usually negates any savings on fish.

If you buy online direct from the breeders, such as you can often do with AquaBid, you can get some very nice, and sometimes unusual, species of fish. But if you are buying from a big company, they might have contracted with fish farmers to ship their fish directly to you. In other words, you would be buying something that neither you, nor the seller, has seen beforehand. The fish that arrive might not even be the same species you ordered.

Even if there is a live delivery guaranteed you might still have to pay extra to have the replacement fish delivered.

Unfortunately I have had 2 deaths, the remaining fish are fantastic though and doing very well, had them nearly 2 months now.
