So my girl dropped this morning; only had about 8 or 9 so far.. My question is how do you know when she is finished?
She has dropped a dark/black piece of something maybe about an inch long.. Placenta maybe? I'm not sure...

She wil be about 1/2 her size when done. Normally an hour or so and she will have finished. That how long mine normally take anyway.

No, they don't drop placentas because the eggs are self contained. Could it be poop?

+1 for poop. TO expand on KK's answer a bit, livebearer fish have eggs, just like every other type of fish. The eggs aren't laid, however, they hatch inside the female. There is no placenta at all, as there is with mammals.

Actually must've miscounted earlier because we are up to 13 babies. They're definitely getting bigger since I last looked at them! Must be the food.
