Ways to coax a CAE into a net?

It begs the question....unless you take a book with the photo's of these fish, how can the average newby fishkeeper get the actual fish they want and not an aggressive monster out to kill everyone else in their community aquarium?
This was definitely a true point, back in t'Olden Days, when it were all fields round 'ere, but how many entering said shops today don't have a smartphone? Everyone in here at least has internet access. ;)

True

But CAE and False Flying Fox are STILL being sold by LFS as SAE...and when new to fishkeeping people will generally take whatever the LFS person behind the counter as gospel truth...when plainly it isn't the truth to the more experienced fishkeeper

Which takes us way, way back to the important point, before purchasing ANY fish...
DO THE RESEARCH.

...And avoid impulse-buying. ;()

Have you ever tried telling an LFS worker that they have misidentified their SAE, CAE and Garra?

Some look at you like you have suddenly grown three heads, shrug their shoulders and walk away muttering
Some will argue...even though you KNOW they have made mistaken identity
Some will accept the mistake and relabel their aquariums

Sadly the majority of people only discover that they have aggressive fish and/or slimecoat eaters and not the cute cuddly and completely harmless Siamese Algae Eater AFTER their aquarium has been left like a scene from a horror film or they venture onto sites like this one

Yes.

Maybe a thread containing all the most common mistaken identity fish and their behavioural issues should be made onsite, with photo's.....might go some way towards preventing people buying a fish that isn't what they thought or were told it was.

The SAE/CAE/Garra identity issue is unlikely to the the only one......whoever did a thread to distinguish each one would have to be careful though since stock images on the internet can also misidentify them too

If ever in doubt...
Do.
Not.
Buy.
