So, how about we all illuminate our tanks with standard candles ? where did I put that cask of tallow ,,,,

Just that I have a deep suspicion of this watts per gallon m'larky that seems to give so much confusion and worry to newcomers to our wonderful hobby

True but with "regular" sized tanks it is a good general term IMO. I explained this in the pinned lighting article.

Lighting measurement is a complex subject so it is hard to convey in a simple manner. The WPG rule acheives this but obviously only to a limited degree.
