Hey WD, I know we live in the same general area. Where do you prefer to shop for fish? Have you been to Tropical Fish World? If so, how are they? Right now I usually do the Petsmart thing but but it really seems like most of the people there are not very bright. I have gone to a small shop in Wake Forest but wasn't impressed with the selection.

Any info would be great. Thanks :)

You can PM him; which would ensure a quicker response.

Just an option for ya.

We got great little crops of zebras, rasboras and neons from the PetSmart between Chapel Hill and Durham but lately those same species have not looked good enough for us to increase shoal sizes from there unfortunately. But I do pop in to the bigbox stores when I'm going by, just out of curiosity more than any likelihood to buy.

I'm made it a point to visit the farther away ones but have nothing great to report. One of the best in this area of the east coast was AquaMains in Greensboro but sadly it was sold and is now being changed from what used to be highly aquatic into more of a "pet" store by the shopping center owners who are just trying to keep it alive, as is happening to so many good shops. There are a couple of Raleigh shops I've still not explored and I still hope to check out some of the shops in Charlotte and area that RDD has explored.

I think somewhere on TFF there are threads where you can record up to date data from visits to individual shops and I suppose we'd all be better off if we bothered to take it upon ourselves to continue to do this low-level work. I'm guilty of not doing it. In the world of reporting swimming pools for lap swimmers there's the same sort of grass-roots reporting of info that's gone on for ages, lol.

ps. edit: forgot to say that of course many resort to having fish shipped from DrFoster and other web outlets for their more unusual ones or of course the occasional fish swap meets of the local societies etc.

If you are looking for fish that they happen to carry, some good online sources are Swampriveraquatics, Floridaguppiesplus and, on Aquabid, Tampafishman1. None of these sources carry a huge selection but what they do carry are top quality and they all know how to ship well.

Pardon my slight hijacking, but here's the link for LFS reviews, to post a new review or update an old one you'll need to PM a mod or me. :good:

Smoke14 it seems I'm stalking you again.

Ha! All looks on-topic to me, dthoff! Thanks for the recommendations OM, at least its a nice thought from the point of view of us live-tropical-fish consumers that as we slowly watch the demise of the old individual proprietor LFS that was high quality, at least we might also see the slow rise of a few high quality distance-ship sources on a continent basis I guess.

Thanks for the info everybody :) I'll check out those online sights. I did manage to check out Tropical Fish World in Raleigh. Nice place, clean, organized and they can order whatever you want and receive relative quick-1 week or so. Might give them a try.

Thanks again.

BTW dthoffsett........don't make me take a restraining order out      :p
