The water in my 10gal tank has turned to a very ugly yellow color and I'm not sure why.
Nothing new has been added such as something that would leach tanins into the water.
I did a water change 2 days ago and today... yellow water.
Could it be an algae bloom perhaps? I've read about green water, but not yellow.

Do you have excessive phosphates or nitrates? Could you list your tank specs? Also where did the water come from that you did the water change from? Have you checked for dying organics?

I'll have to check specs... they won't be good though since I had to take the filter media out to medicate the tank... which is why I did the water change.
Water always comes from the bathtub faucet.
Nothing in the tank that I can see that's dying... a few plant leaves need to be trimmed off, but other than that there shouldn't be anything else in the tank that's dead/dying. It's only my 2 bettas (divided of course) that are in the tank and both are fine.

Alrighty... Water stats are
Nitrite 0
Ammonia .50 (about to do a water change to get it down)
and Nitrate 0

The filter media is still in our 28 gal that is fishless cycling and that won't be ready for at least another week.

So yeah definitely not nitrate causing this.
Maybe this water change will help clear this up. Still would like to know what's causing it though.
