Yeah, for some it works, and like I pointed out in my Article, the bacteria can adapt to a wide range of pH levels.

It's just when the pH suddenly drops from a higher value, say 7.5, to 6.0 over night, the bacteria are "shocked" by this and they go into a dormant state, which will cause a stall in the cycle.

You say it's from your tap?

What is it in your tank?

When Co2 gasses off from your tap water to your tank water, the result is an increase in pH.

its the same in the tank i have been cycling for about 3-4 weeks now the cycle has gone just as chris cows article said my pH has been 6.0 all the way through with no fluctuations im more worried that it seems too good to be true
also my water has no kH at all the gH is very high but the kH is none existent

What kind of test kit are you using?

Ammonia at or above .25 ppm will cause permanent gill damage to the fish, and Nitrite at or above .25 ppm will cause permanent nerve damage to the fish.

Forgot a very important ingredient when doing fish in cycle! If the fish can handle PH of under 7 that is what your water should be, having ph of 6-7 is the best for the simple reason we know the ammonia is not the same and not as toxic to the fish, actually at 6.5 there is not ammonia its ammonium, the only part that is hard on the fish is the nitrite part when it hits this cycle and no matter what your PH is they will cycle through at under 7 for your PH, just at different speeds, same goes with temp I have even notice turn the tank up as high as possible it cycles quick, don't use a heater to cycle and it takes forever

I fully believe in a fish in cycle done it many years also attempted the fish less cycle and never again I can cycle a tank maybe 2 weeks faster using this method compared to a fishless cycle, unless i raise PH raise temp to do a fishless cycle, works out werid for some people but one thing is always the same with fish in cycle water change daily!

A temp of 29C/84F is optimal for the growth of these bacteria.

why daily water change when it not needed?
although i may up the temp abit using above info on 27 atm so 1 a day sorted

i no that just they was you said it sound like they a needed even when the ammonia and nitrite are not there

did tests again today

had .25 ammonia and between .25 and .5 nitrite
changed water already
and i have also added an extra smaller filter that will be used for my spare tank when i need to use it
hope fully this will boost the cycle as there is now more media for the bacteria to grow on

Well done for doing your research before you started this
It's no substitute for water changes, but seachem prime used as a water conditioner makes ammonia less toxic which gives me peace of mind, although I still test and do water changes. You hardly use any compared to somthing like tetra aquarium conditioner, so it lasts ages too.

i have a fair few different thins to put in the water
off my head i have
2 x tap water treatment (one pets at home one intercept)
1 x water cleaner (removes nitrite and ammonia aparrently pets at home again)
1 x nitrate remover (tetra one)
1 x filterstart (intercept filter bacteria)
think thats it to be honest most of them are probably useless so i put a little bit in now again when they run out i probably wont bother getting anymore

one problem i have with water changes is i cudnt get the syphon to suck water from the bucket back to the tank lol worked awsome for removing tank water though becuase the tank is high that the bucket iirc
