What tests should i be doing on my water and how often? Also what test kits do you recommend? Are strips or liquids better?

Cheers

Jon

API liquid test kits a good, how often you test depends on how old your tank is

Are you cycling or are you talking about just in general. Most here use the API liquid test kit, though many rave about the salifert kits as well. Strips are horrendously inaccurate; I think you'll struggle to find someone who'd recommend them.

Ive bought a mature tank and setup from a friend and took 50% of the water with it, so i guess when i set it up at home it is just like a big water change? Ive had it set up for a week now.

Start off with a complete round of tests and then check it every other day, if no change you can do the tests weekly or even stretch it out longer. I'm currently running 3 tanks and unless the fish look stressed, I don't test each one but maybe every 2 weeks or so.
