Hello

An extract from Hagen's beginner setup guide, that is really helpful.

The guide is here http://www.hagen.com/pdf/aquatic/UK_Fluval..._Care_Guide.pdf
It obviously punts a lot of their product, but gives basic common sense guides for most of the procedures.

Thanks for sharing that Gilbert. Its always nice to take a look at a chart like that and compare it with things you know.

I think there are a few errors in that chart so don't go diagnosing plant / algae problems with it!

Yes... for instance it seems to want to link up KH (Carbonate Hardness) with several negative plant symptoms, but it has no way of indicating whether a KH that is too high or too low might be somehow associated with these symptoms.

Anybody care to take a guess what its talking about in that particular case?

Actually thought those dots should have been more in the GH catagory i.e. lack of Mg / Ca etc... Although I would expect the table to refer user to specific test kit for more specific numbers..?

probably low KH, as plants cannot get as much carbon from the bicarbonates in acidic water, however, that only really relates to species that are grown in those habitats such as vallisneria.
Other plants you will be fine with.
It isnt a great section for the plants as it doesnt mention anything about PO4, K, CSM+B, CO2
granted they arent needed for the other sections hoever they are pretty major building blocks for plants!!
thanks.
