Hi, got my first fish tank yesterday and set it up this morning.
It's a 48litre tank and has a filter and heater inside,(along with decorations,gravel.ect)
I was wondering since my local fish store do free water testing when would be the best time to get it tested?
Thanks ;-) and any advice on bettas and tetras would be great :)
Ps; I have dechlorinated the water and added filter start.

The first thing you need to do is cycle your filter. Here is how it's done: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/113861-fishless-cycling/
You will want to get your own water test kit (I recommend the API master kit) because you will want to test your water daily while cycling.

Thanks for the advice and the link, found it very useful! I'm going to buy a test kit today,
Also, thanks for the welcome message! ;-)

Hi and Welcome to TFF!

I agree with the others - one of the best long-term things you can do for yourself is to get a testing kit and participate in an interactive process of cycling the new filter on your tank, thereby learning one of the key skills of being an aquarist. There are two or three odd skills like this that can give you the kind of baseline knowledge that leaves you with more flexibility to enjoy the more artistic aspects of the hobby.

Good luck with your "cycling" learning!
