We are having a bit of a heatwave over here (UK) and the water in my tank is now at 80 deg F. The heater is off, but the ambient temperature in the room is quite warm. Is this getting dangerous. There is a "green band" on the thermometer, and at the moment it is just nudging the top. Do I need to cool it down and if so, what is the best way? Introduce some cooler de-chlorinated water perhaps?

Yes your tank size and fish type would help. You could just put a fan near the tank or float bottles of ice water to cool it down.

I am having the same problem, actually. Temp is hovering btn 80-82 and I cannot cool it down especially during the day. Will the fan work? Its awfully warm these days. I can tryfloating some ice.

I was concerned about this too, I got several ideas from the forum. A couple of people rigged up computer fans to blow across the top, others suggested air conditioning the room, there is also a chiller unit you can get for your tank---quite expensive! Ice cubes came up, but that would cause cold pockets which would be worse for your fish than the heat. I've decided that the best thing to do is to raise my temp to about 80 for the summer to cut down on the yo-yo effect and just keep an eye on them. So far they seem to be doing ok. Someone from Africa said that their tank is close to 90 most of the time so that helped ease my mind.

Your aquarium should be ok, my heaters messed up & mine was around 80 until i noticed it being that high, & my fish were fine :)

We keep ours at 80 (hovering up to 82 at times) as standard for our turtle and our fish have never shown any problems.

However, I know what you mean about this heatwave as our tank recently decided to shoot up to about 86. I opened the top and set a desk fan blowing on the top of the water (kind of down/across the top) and within an hour it was back down to 82.
