Hi all!!!

First off let me apologize to the Mods if this isnt in the right thingy. Awesome site dudes!!!

Newbie to the little fishy world but not to electric guitars... B) .Was wondering, Would it be ok to filter new aquarium water through a filter like my new Brita pitcher?? It says it takes out all the nasty stuff. I suppose it would be ok but I dont know_ anyone tried this before??

I'm not sure but i doubt it, Britta filters are designed for human's and I don't think it would benefit fish.

even if it did remove the ammonias and nitrites it would very quickly get clogged up. They aren't made to handle poop.

If you mean just for filling the tank, I don't see how it can hurt. I would still use dechlorinator if you have city water.

If you mean as an alternative to having a filter on the tank, it won't work.

Hey all,

I was thinking about using the filter to add water during water changes, not for replacement of the correct filter unit. ust thought it might help in some way. Im not on a city water well, I have fresh spring water here at home, love being in the country... Just want the best fer me little hatchets!!

it works wonders when adding new water to the tank - dechlorinator and just generally makes the water clearer.

I do it all the time when I do water changes... takes almsot all day though, those filters are so slow

Running water through a brita is essentially like adding carbon to your aquarium filter, except it'll take you much longer.
