Hi,

I have just bought a crown tail betta. I treated the water with conditioner before I let the fish in.
Now after 4-5 days the water has become a bit cloudy.

I wanted to know if its fine to replace the water with regular tap water - I tried changing one-fourth of water with tap water - but it still seems cloudy.
The tap water is drinkable.

Or would it harm the betta.

I do not have conditioner as of now ...

The fish bowl I have is 1 gallon.

Thanks.

I take it you need to replace the water but are afraid to use straight tap water without conditioner? And I'm assuming over the span of 4-5 days you have not changed all of the water? If that's the case, you NEED to change that water, especially if it's getting cloudy. You're on the right track on not using the tap water, because the chlorine and chloramines in it are harmful to fish, but so are the rising ammonia levels in that bowl.

Can you get to a grocery store? Some big ones do sell tap water conditioner for fish in the pets aisle. Or you could use bottled spring water until you can get the water conditioner.

Bottled water is a good idea, if you can not get hold of deconditioner for your tank. Worst comes to the worst and you can't get any in a LFA/garden center, call your local vets and ask if they know who sells it in a closer area.

Ebay sells it for a good price too.

Out of interest, how much deconditioner did you use in your now water?

Deffo you need to do a water change. If the bowl isn't filtered then by 5 days the build of of dangerous ammonia can be affecting your betta's health.

I'd go with bottled water if you don't have dechlorinator (please get some soon - ideally you should have bought some with your bowl :)
