Hi all me again

thanks for all your help so far. my issue now is water movement in the tank. im using the eheim 2213 and its filtering the water nicely but the problem is current in the water. a lot of fish waste etc is just settling at the bottom and not getting sucked into the filter. is it worth getting one of those marine style water movers to create more movement in the water or will this be bad for the fish?

many thanks

Jack

Hi, it's a bit of a misconception to think that your filter sucks up fish waste in the way you would like. Almost all the solid fish waste in most tank sinks to the bottom where it will slowly dissolve into the water. This can be greatly speeded up if you have bottom feeders as their disturbance helps to break up the matter. Then as the water is circulated through the filter the waste particals are filtered out.

Gravel vaccing during partial water changes will also get rid of loads of waste. I have a long and narrow stick that I use to stir up my gravel in between PWC to break up waste and to release gases.

i just had a bash at cleaning the coral sand and i think i need a new syphon mines a bit rubbish plus i havnt quite got the technique down. the other reason i asked about these current generators is i read that cichlids like a good current to swim in. now this doesn't make much sense to me as they live in a lake?

Current from the correct filter for a tank will be sufficient for Cichlids. The water quality needs to be spot on though and good water surface agitation to assure maximum oxygen level.

thankfully my water is spot on atm (knock on wood) im just worried that #16##### all this mess builds up in the gravel it will take a dive
